just wondering is anyone superstitious about anything?

i am superstitious person, i dont walk under ladders, walk over three drains, open my umbrella inside the house, put new shoes on the table or pick up a coin if its tails side up, as all these are meant to bring bad luck. am i being too superstitious? or do these superstitions actually cause fate?

does anyone else know of any superstitions and their meanings, preferably good luck ones, lol

I can't walk under ladders and if I walk over drains, they have to be an even number. I can't walk over things in odd numbers (wierd huh).

Mirrors too, can't break a mirror!

I must admit i do the not walking under a ladder and not walking over 3 drains, i salute magpies but not rhyme for them, I always tap my head to touch wood when needing something to go right and i throw salt over my left shoulder if i spill it. Oh and i never kill ladybirds (even tho i hate all bugs) coz i dont want my house to burn down. Thats a strange one i know.

Not sure if they are superstitions but i follow the itchy hands means ur either coming in to or losing money, if a knife drops to the floor means a man is going to visit you, itchy feet mean u will go on a trip. I cant think of any others but i know i have got more. Suprisingly tho i am not superstitious about friday the 13th. Ive always found im luckier on that day :)

here's a few

Superstitions

Knocking on wood:
When some of us mention something good that has happened or that we expect to happen, we knock twice on a piece of wood, why do we do this? Once, in the tides of time, trees were thought to be the homes of the gods. Now known as Dryads. To be granted a favour, a person would nicely ask their deity and touch the bark of the tree (first knock). Then knock once more to signify a polite 'Thank you' (second knock).

Walking under a ladder:
Leaning a ladder against a wall (with the floor and the wall) or opened (with the floor) forms a triangle. Once, in tides of time, a triangle was considered with symbol of life; if one walked through a triangle of any kind, you were tempting the fates.

Breaking a mirror:
One's reflection was considered to represent your soul. Breaking your reflection or image, therefore, was harmful to the soul.

Witches-Why do they wear pointed hats?
This 'trademark' (and the term is used loosely) to identify the followers of was actually an invention of the Christian church! In medieval days, the chapeau was called a "steeple-crowned hat", derived from "steeple house", the Puritans' word for 'church'. Legends state that the hats were placed on the heads of witches before they were burned at the stake. It was hoped that this holy symbol of the church would help draw salvation into their immortal souls. Also, the term 'warlock', used to describe a male witch, is also an invention of the Christian church. Witches were usually known to be women, so when it was found that there were also male followers of Wicca, they were given a different name to distinguish them.

Halloween: Trick or Treat!
The druids believed that on Oct. 31, the dead rose from their graves to revisit their old homes. 'Trick or treating' evolved when frightened villagers 'offered' fruits and nuts to the wandering and restless souls to keep them from destroying their homes and property. These days the restless souls are called children and we give them sweets so the little darlings won't superglue your locks shut.
